Gaining classroom experience before starting our initial teacher training (ITT) can help you be sure that a career in teaching is right for you. It can also support your application for ITT.

The School Experience Programme (SEP) offers classroom experience at Knole Academy.  The duration is flexible (1-10 days); this will be agreed upon on an individual basis.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB) may be required.  This will be organised by us and could impact on the length of your placement.

You will be able to apply for the SEP if you hold (or are predicted) at least a 2:2 degree and are interested in teaching secondary maths, physics, chemistry, French, computing or design and technology. Other subjects are available at Knole Academy although not funded by Department for Education.

You can also apply as an undergraduate if you:

  • are in your final year of studying
  • are interested in teaching one of these subjects at secondary level, and
  • are predicted a 2:2 or above

How to apply

You will need to register with Department for Education if you have not already done so, before you can apply for the SEP

Once you have registered, you can apply for the SEP quickly and easily by calling the Teaching Line on 0800 389 2500.

The Teaching Line will contact you once you have registered and it has been confirmed that you meet the requirements. You can contact the Teaching Line by emailing or on Freephone 0800 389 2500 if you have any questions about your application. Please note that school experience placements are subject to meeting the eligibility requirements and availability
